Why Didn’t Someone Tell Me?
Was there ever a time you discovered something other people knew but never told you? Well, that happened to me about a life or death “eternal” issue. Let me tell you about it.
When I was younger, many things about the Bible were told to me. For instance, I was told you couldn’t trust the accuracy of the Bible because men have changed the text over the years.
WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE TELL ME that modern scholarship has verified the historical occurrences of both the Old and New Testaments? I found out that the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 substantiated the Bible we have today and it is totally reliable and accurate.
I was told Jesus Christ was a religious leader, but not God revealed in the flesh.
WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE TELL ME that hundreds of years before Christ lived on earth, Jewish prophets predicted detailed events concerning His birth, life, crucifixion, and resurrection? I was never told Christ fulfilled almost 300 prophecies about His first coming, which are documented in the Old Testament.
I was told if I wanted to go to heaven when I died, I had to be a very good person.
WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE TELL ME that heaven is a perfect place and only if I, too, was perfect would I be able to go there? Being very good would not be good enough… Revelation 21:27 I was told I would have to do good works to have eternal life.
WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE TELL ME that the Bible clearly and repeatedly says I do not get to heaven as a result of doing any good works? Ephesians 2:8,9 says,
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
